Will the outkast coachella reunion include future?
OutKast‘s rumored 2014 reunion is looking a lot more likely now that longtime ‘Kast producer Rico Wade has revealed that he’s trying to land his cousin Future a spot on the Coachella festival stage – alongside Big Boi and the ever-elusive Andre 3000.
The telling tidbit came as a passing mention in a Stereogum.com article published on Thursday. While waiting in a Columbus, Ohio, hotel lobby for Future, writer Chris De Ville ran into Wade who spoke on the upcoming Coachella set.
"He affably spills the beans about unreleased Andre 3000 solo songs from a decade ago and his hopes to score Future a cameo during OutKast’s reunion sets at Coachella," De Ville writes, without directly attributing any quotes on the matter to the Organized Noize producer.
Reports of a reunion of one of hip-hop’s most beloved acts have been persistent for the past 10 years, but things picked up serious steam in November when Billboard broke the Coachella news, citing an unnamed source. Now, considering Wade’s relationship with the group, the rumors have taken on that much more credibility. Still, neither OutKast nor Coachella have confirmed anything.
During the Stereogum interview, Wade also shed light on another long-whispered rap rumor: the upcoming collaboration between Andre 3000 and Future, who got his start under the tutelage of OutKast and their Dungeon Family crew in Atlanta.
During a game a truth of dare on an October episode of "RapFix Live," the "Turn on the Lights" MC refused to answer when asked whether he and Three Stacks had logged in any work in the studio. Wade confirmed, however, that he himself produced a hook-up between the two called "Benz Bitch," a track that’s currently slated for Future’s upcoming sophomore album, Honest.
