Watch conan o’brien’s insane reaction to nailing mtv movie awards hosting gig
Sure, Matthew McConaughey gave an emotional speech and Ellen DeGegeres broke the Internet with her epic selfie.
But as far as Conan O’Brien is concerned that’s all a pile of trash.
“Sitting here before me are some of the most prestigious awards an artist can receive: the Oscar, the Golden Globe, the BAFTA, the Screen Actor’s Guild Award, the Peabody Award and, of course, the Nobel Peace Prize,” explained O’Brien of the startling array of (we assume fake) hardware he assembled on his desk on Tuesday night’s broadcast of his TBS late night show.
“People work their entire lives in an attempt to earn just one of these incredible awards. But if you ask me, they’re all garbage!” he shouted, as he swept the lot of them off his desk. “Garbage! It’s garbage!”
Why? “There’s only one award, one award in the world that truly matters. I’m talking about the MTV Movie Award.” It’s exactly that kind of enthusiasm for the golden popcorn that earned O’Brien the coveted host slot for the Movie Awards and we couldn’t be any happier about it.
O’Brien will bring that hype to the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live stage at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on MTV in celebration of the year’s best movies and performances. The 2014 MTV Movie Awards will also feature exclusive sneak previews of the summer’s most anticipated movies with never-before seen footage and previews. The nominees will be revealed on March 6 at 7 a.m. ET when nominations go live on MovieAwards.MTV.com.
Oh, and one more thing. Don’t worry, Conan said, by April 13 “True Detective” and this season of “The Walking Dead” will be over and “Game of Thrones” will be on, but you can DVR it or watch it the 100 other times it re-airs on the 27 different HBOs.
