A few weeks after the shooting death of Mike Brown in August 2014, The Game assembled a collection of rap all-stars to pay tribute to the late teen. Last month, the day after Prince died, Game released “Rest in Purple,” a song dedicated to the pop star and his legacy. And now, not to be confused with a Law & Order: SVUripped-from-the-headlines episode, Game has released a new track inspired by Afeni Shakur, who died earlier this week.
The L.A. native uses the moment not to pen an entire song about Afeni, but to consider the impact that she had on her son Tupac, and the impact of mothers throughout the world, including Game’s own mother.
If you’re wondering why he was so quick to record this, Game posted a lengthy remembrance and explanation on Instagram.
