14 songs that were almost sung by other people
In the world of writing a hit song, you’ve got to keep the artist in mind — after all, the singer is the one who will take it to the charts. There have been a lot of songs written for Rihanna and Britney, and while everyone wants to write for the pop legends, sometimes the tracks just need a better home. And we’re kind of glad they did.
“Since U Been Gone” proved that Kelly Clarkson really had the attitude and the chops to make it in the pop world, but it could’ve gone to Pink, who already had hits. Kelly takes it to a new level, and now, it’s hard to imagine anyone else singing it. Of course, you hear these stories all the time — a song is written for one person, but another person gets it. Here are just 14 instances where songs were intended for a different artist:
1. Iggy Azalea – “Pretty Girls” feat. Britney Spears

I wish I could’ve sung it.’ … I was like, ‘Damn, I’ll do it. Too bad Hilary.’”
