Between wearing cool costumes and pretend-playing with CGI dragons, Emilia Clarke’s gig on Game of Thrones is pretty freakin’ sweet.
The one downside to being Daenerys Targaryen (a.k.a. Khaleesi, the First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Mother of Dragons, etc.), is that she has to learn Dothraki, which is a real, legit language that you can study. Of course, most of us haven’t put in the time to master the native tongue of the fictional Dothraki population, meaning Clarke can basically say anything on the show and no one (except linguistics scholar David Peterson) would be the wiser.
That gives the actress some room for flexibility, she said during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday. Clarke recalled one time when she decided to goof off on set and recite the lyrics to Hanson’s hit “MMMBop” in Dothraki, which is a pretty impressive feat, considering she’s basically just translating some gibberish to even more gibberish.
“I can’t stress how much less catchy that is,” Meyers decided, and he’s right … but it also means we get to see this amazing facial expression from Clarke:
