Here’s how rbc and we are empowering young social entrepreneurs

The future of tomorrow will no doubt be shaped by today’s youth, which is why RBC is investing in young Canadians to initiate social action through entrepreneurship.

The WE Are Social Entrepreneurs program, which is fuelled by RBC Future Launch, is empowering young Canadians to take their ideas for social change to the next level. RBC created Future Launch to help young Canadians get more work experience, grow their networks, gain new skills and enhance their well-being, giving young people the tools they need to succeed in the changing workforce.

RBC and WE have partnered to help young Canadians launch their social enterprises, helping them to grow their ventures through various aspects, like networking and skills development. By providing these budding innovators support, they’re encouraging youth to turn their passion for social change into sustainable businesses and careers.

Alberta teen Maddison Tory, who spoke at this year’s WE Day event in Toronto and who will be appearing at WE Days across the country, is just one example of how young people can change the world around them. When she was 13, she underwent heart surgery. While she was recovering, she saw other children and families in the hospital who, like her, were scared and worried.

Her life-changing experience inspired her to make a difference in her community, and from there she launched Maddi’s Mission. Tory sells colourful scarves with hands on each end to symbolize giving each wearer a big hug—something she believed many patients and families around her needed. The proceeds from the scarves sold are used to help fund fun experiences in the hospital for children, like magic shows and superhero-themed parties. RBC and WE gave her resources to help her manage her money and connected her with mentors which elevated Maddi’s Mission.

“I never imagined I’d be a social entrepreneur, but I am,” Tory said during her appearance at WE Day Toronto, “And with the right support, you can bring together what you want to be and believe in.”
