George clooney and amal alamuddin are officially married

Today (September 27) in a private ceremony in Venice, Italy, at the Aman Canal Grande hotel George Clooney and Amal Alamauddin finally tied the knot. The happy pair were already seen galavanting with the likes of Matt Damon and Cindy Crawford last night, and now they are officially Mr. and Mrs. Clooney.

Clooney, 53, proposed to Amal, 36, back in April after seven months of romance. She’s a human rights lawyer and Clooney will be her first marriage—he was previously married to Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993.

The ceremony will be followed up by a civil service on Monday (September 28) officiated by George’s good friend and a former mayor of Rome, Walter Veltroni.

Alamuddin’s law firm released a statement of congratulations for the couple back when they got engaged:

“The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married.”

Earlier in September when Clooney accepted the Andrea Bocelli Humanitarian Award, he publicly proclaimed his happiness and excitement to marry Amal:

“I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, who I will be marrying in a couple of weeks in Venice, of all places,” he said. “Amal, I love you to death and I cannot wait to become your husband.”

Congratulations to the couple!
