Chris Wallace is sorry. After getting slammed for making rude body-shaming remarks about Kelly Clarkson‘s weight on Friday, the Fox News host apologized on Sunday for the insensitive comments.
“I sincerely apologize to Kelly Clarkson for my offensive comment,” Wallace said told Us Weekly in a statement. “I admire her remarkable talent and that should have been the focus of any discussion about her.”
During a discussion about Clarkson on The Mike Gallagher Show, both men took derogatory digs at Kelly’s weight. “Have you seen Kelly Clarkson? You know the singer, Kelly Clarkson? Holy cow, did she blow up,” Gallagher said, to which Wallace replied, “Really? Do we want to talk about some of your friends? Kelly Clarkson’s got a lovely voice. She could stay off the deep dish pizza for a little while.”
Fox News colleague Greta Van Sustren called out Wallace over the comments, labeling them “obnoxious.”
Clarkson, 32, who has taken a hard line against previous body-shaming comments, spoke out on the subject during a visit to the Ellen DeGeneres show on Friday.
“I think what hurts my feelings for people is when I’ll have a meet and greet after the show and a girl whose, like, bigger than me will be in the meet and greet and be like, ‘Oh, God!’ And they’ll say, ‘If they think you’re big, I must be so fat to them,’” she said. “It’s like, you just are who you are. We are who we are — whatever size. It doesn’t mean that we’re gonna be that forever.”
Clarkson has not responded to Wallace’s comments or his apology.
