‘ender’s game’ trailer takes us back to battle school

Best-selling and beloved novels are typically the most obvious fodder for big-budgeted film adaptations, but one, the sci-fi classic "Ender’s Game," has amazingly slipped through the cracks until now. The movie version of the cult novel will finally hit theaters in November, and the very first trailer for the epic story has just gone online.

"Ender’s Game" follows Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield from "Hugo"), a boy who finds himself in an otherworldly scenario. Set in the future, after a war with an alien race has weakened humanity to the point of desperation, the story follows Ender as he enrolls in an outer-space military academy, designed to train children like him to prevent future attacks.

The first trailer for "Ender’s Game" comes with all of the requisite shots of outer space that one would expect from a sci-fi adaptation and a voiceover from one of the legends of the genre. Harrison Ford provides an ominous narration to the beginning of the trailer and stars as Colonel Hyrum Graff, the gruff leader of Battle School.

The preview was heavy on computer effects, giving fans of the book a glimpse at the zero-gravity scenes they have had to imagine since it originally hit shelves in 1985.

Gavin Hood, who previously worked on "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," is the filmmaker who was finally able to bring Ender and Battle School to the big screen, and he brought an all-star cast along with him. Joining Butterfield and Ford are recent "Iron Man 3" scene-stealer Sir Ben Kingsley, Academy Award nominees Hailee Steinfeld and Viola Davis, and Abigail Breslin.

"Ender’s Game" will finally hit theaters on November 1.
