As you know, Drake first broke through as Jimmy in “Degrassi,” but the MC was also making music while working on the show. In fact, that may help explain why he had to leave the series.
“That was part of the reason I was kicked off the show,” Drake told W Magazine in his cover story for the “Art” issue.
“Back then, I’d spend a full day on set and then go to the studio to make music until 4 or 5 a.m.,” he explained. “I’d sleep in my dressing room and then be in front of the cameras again by 9 a.m. Eventually, they realized I was juggling two professions and told me I had to choose. I chose this life.”
Drizzy — who starred on the show from 2001 through 2009 — definitely doesn’t seem to have hard feelings about the whole thing. After all, he did become one of the most successful pop stars around after leaving the show.
And in August, the MC had a mini-reunion with his former “Degrassi” cast mates. And look…Nothing but smiles.
But even if it’s not with “Degrassi,” Drake’s ready to get back into that field. “I can’t wait to get back into acting,” Drake said. “No one ever asks me to do movies, and, although music is my focal point now, I’d love to do a film.”
Drizzy doesn’t just talk “Degrassi” in this issue of W. He also gets into art and his photos are reworked by a bunch of acclaimed artists for the mag’s visuals. Check more of that out here.
