Long before he was known as Drake, he was Aubrey Graham, a young actor from Toronto on a teen soap called “Degrassi: The Next Generation.”
Never one to forget his roots in the 6 (and at Degrassi High), on Wednesday (August 5) night, the rapper joined former “Degrassi” co-stars Daniel Clark (Sean!), Adamo Ruggiero (Marco!) and Lauren Collins (Paige!) at the Toronto premiere of the new web comedy series, “We Are Disorderly.” (For the record, the only thing that would have made this reunion more perfect would have been Nina Dobrev.)
Just look how happy Drake is to be reunited with his fellow Degrassians! It’s like he’s been waiting for this moment for his entire life. Maybe the reason Drake didn’t appear in the recent “Degrassi” reunion special isn’t because he was too busy being a world famous rapper, but rather because everyone just lost his number and forgot about him. Seems legit, right?
The 28-year-old made his acting debut on “Degrassi: The Next Generation” in 2001 as Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star who became physically disabled after he was shot by a troubled classmate. It was one of the most memorable moments in the show’s 14-season history.
Drake starred on the teen drama until 2009 — in Jimmy’s last episode, he proposes to his longtime girlfriend Trina — by which time his music career had really started to take off with impressive tracks like “Best I Ever Had” and “Successful.”
It’s good to know that no matter how big Drake gets, he’ll still take the time to hang with is “Degrassi” woes. Keep being perfect, Drizzy.
