Degrassi’s most famous celebrity fans

Degrassi Celeb Fans 1280

The end of Degrassi is almost here, but rather than say good-bye, which we’re still not ready for, we’re taking a look back at some of Degrassi’s biggest fans. Celebrities – they’re just like us!

Tune in to the final season of Degrassi on MTV, premiering on Monday, July 20 at 9e/6p. Catch up on the first half of season 14 of and relive seasons 12 and 13 on CraveTV.

Kevin Smith

As one of the most vocal celebrity fans of Degrassi, Kevin Smith jumps at every opportunity to talk about his love not only for Canada, but for its most famous show. Smith has played himself numerous times on Degrassi, including one where he and film partner Jason Mewes go to Degrassi to film the fictional movie Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh!. That’s a movie we’d definitely see. Smith has appeared in five Degrassi episodes, one Degrassi film, and even caused a break up between Joey Jeremiah and Caitlin. Can someone just give this man a Canadian passport already?

Alanis Morissette

What’s more Canadian than a hockey stick-wielding Alanis Morissette in a beaver hat, Maple Leafs jersey, and red and black flannel jacket? Nothing, according to Kevin Smith, except having Alanis wear this outfit on an episode of Degrassi.

Nick Kroll

Comedian Nick Kroll is such a big fan of Degrassi that he hilariously paid homage to the Canadian youth series with running skits on The Kroll School. Wheels Ontario was about stereotypical Canadian accents, a diverse cast, and a teenager trying to fit in at a new school. From the uniforms to the musical accompaniment, Wheels Ontario had Degrassi down pat.

Chaz Bono

Degrassi received Emmy nominations and rave reviews for its portrayal of transgender teen Adam Torres. Activist Chaz Bono took notice of Degrassi’s work and expressed his interest in working with the show. Bono eventually played himself in a Battle of the Bands episode, where his character interacts with Torres as the two talk about inspiring one another.

Lena Dunham

The actress, novelist and Girls writer discussed her love for Degrassi numerous times while on the Canadian leg of her promotional tour for Not That Kind of Girl. If Becky, Imogen, Jack and Clare all moved to New York City together, it may look a little something like Girls.

Ellen Page

Reason number 231 why we all need to be BFFs with Ellen Page and talk about Degrassi all day, everyday.

Keke Palmer

A self-proclaimed Degrassi fan, actress and singer Keke Palmer got the fan thrill of a lifetime when she guest starred as herself in Season 11. As if being a fan of a show and scoring a role isn’t cool enough, Keke also got a kiss from Sav and debuted a new song. We still have decided which part has us more jealous.
