With all of the hype surrounding his role in Whitney Houston’s “Sparkle,” it’s no surprise Cee Lo Green has added yet another film to his repertoire.
The “Forget You” singer has joined fellow “Voice” coach Adam Levine, alongside Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo, in the upcoming “Can a Song Save Your Life?”
“I have a small yet significant part in the movie, which is really cool,” Green told MTV News on the movie’s set in Staten Island, New York.
That “small” role is Trouble Gum, a once down-and-out musician who is now basking in the warmth of his success after being discovered and cleaned up by a music producer played by Ruffalo. “He found me when I was young and I was struggling with dependency,” Green explained. “I made a success of myself and I get the chance to return the favor for him.”
The favor? A role not much different from Green’s real-life gig on “The Voice”: extending a helpful hand to Ruffalo’s newest protégé(Knightley).
“We get the chance to have some dialogue and we grow pretty close together too throughout the course of the movie,” Green said. “It has its darker moments but this is definitely the silver lining to it.”
While no date has been scheduled for the movie’s release, both Green and Levine are set to return to “The Voice” this September where they’ll be joined by their new team advisers Rob Thomas and Mary J. Blige, respectively.
