Diane Salema is part of the host ensemble for MTV's flagship program, MTV Live, where she can be seen presenting, Smashdown, a 90-second recap of the drama unfolding on hit MTV shows. In addition to contributing to the weekly talk show, she is also a regular co-host for MTV's Live Chats in which she and another MTV host interact and dish with viewers from across Canada in between programs and commercials breaks.


Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, the self-described "Toronto girl through and through" was discovered while working at an HMV music store in the city. So impressed were the MTV producers that happened to be in the store that faithful day, that Diane was invited to audition for a hosting gig on the network. Understandably sceptical at first, she soon came around and ended up landing the opportunity of a lifetime.


Previously to working for MTV, Diane's passionate love for music channelled itself into live performance. As the former front-woman for the heavy metal band, A Walk Down Memory Lane, she recalls the best day in her life being the band's performance at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. "It was a dream come true."


Outside of music, Diane is an environmentalist and is also keenly tuned in to the philanthropic initiatives that benefit victims of violence and HIV/AIDS. She's even participated in the AIDS Walk for Life for the last 10 years and doesn't plan on throwing in the towel any time soon!


When she's not on TV, Diane spends her down time playing video games and her guitar. When reflecting on how MTV has changed her life, she says, "I've met some people that I've always dreamed of meeting. If someone told me when I was a kid that I'd be able to hang out with some of my musical idols one day, I would've freaked out and not believed them."
