MTV Live Host | Daryn Jones

Daryn Jones has had an extensive career both in front of and behind the camera. After winning a Gemini for his show Buzz, getting a coveted host position on a major Toronto radio station, and being selected as the on air correspondent for The Rick Mercer Report, he is likely the most recognized host on MTV.

As host of the Gemini-Award winning series MTV Live, Daryn, along with his co-host Nicole Holness, brings viewers the latest in world news and pop culture - injected with his sense of dry and observational humour. Since hosting the flagship, interactive show Daryn has interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment including Mark Wahlberg, Amy Winehouse, Mike Myers, Richard Branson, Ellen Page, and several others.

Daryn also finds it important to keep viewers up-to-date on relevant social issues. In 2007, he interviewed Craig and Marc Kielburger; child rights activists and co-founders of Free the Children, about their book Me to We. Daryn was able to help viewers understand the value in volunteering and social involvement. Later in the year when Daryn spoke to activist Adam Sterling, from the documentary Darfur Now, about the genocide in Darfur and what people could do to help hundreds of viewers responded by calling to find out more information.

With his widespread experience in the broadcast industry, Daryn has been an obvious candidate to host many events occurring beyond the Masonic Temple and MTV Live. Most notably was his involvement in CTV's Live Earth broadcast, where he hosted live from Toronto. The Live Earth initiative was a customized-for-Canadians broadcast "unlike anything else in the world," that demonstrated Canada's desire to speak out about climate issues.

Daryn started his comedic career at the age of seventeen, beginning as many comedians do - in front of hard-to-please crowds in stand-up comedy clubs. It was there he met some fellow comics and together they began shooting interviews on the street that were aired on Rogers Cable in Toronto. That show lasted three years, and turned into Buzz, which aired across Canada on The Comedy Network.

A former University of Toronto student, Daryn always makes time to check out The White Stripes when they are in town and also enjoys playing poker "really badly," with his friends in his spare time.

Excited to be working on MTV Live, he says the hardest part of the job to date has been "answering the questions for this bio." He would also like viewers to know he's a nice guy. Seriously.
