Although born in Toronto, Dan split his time between the Canadian city and Los Angeles while growing up and studied film at both York University and Ryerson University. Before landing his hosting gig at MTV, he toiled away as an intern for the reality singing competition, Canadian Idol. Some of his more "glamorous" duties included picking up garbage from the tent city that had formed from the people waiting in line to audition. "Fortunately, I moved up pretty fast," he says of the experience.
Over the past year, Dan has interviewed some of the entertainment industry's most notable celebrities including Avril Lavigne, Hilary Duff, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson and John Mayer. Despite his growing popularity (TV Guide named him one of television's sexiest personalities), the bespectacled host is taking it all in stride. "My parents taught me what it means to be humble; something I think is incredibly important in life and specifically in this industry."
Although his gig on MTV is a new challenge, it has opened him up to a new and exciting experience. "I'm a naturally shy person and this job has been a complete learning experience that has also introduced me to some of my closest friends. It's pretty amazing to do your job and not have it feel like work. I don't know where I'd be if I wasn't doing what I'm doing--and I'd like to keep it that way."
