FIND THE PERFECT PAIR OF GLASSES

When I was in high-school I had similar glasses to the ones I wear now. I remember sitting beside one of the "popular" girls during math class. I was without a pencil and managed to muster the courage to ask her for an extra. She gave me one, paused for a second and then asked, "Do you ever wear contact lenses?" I quietly responded, "No, I don't." Though, the dialogue in my head was far more angry and resentful. Little did either of us know that a few years later they'd be selling my high school glasses in Urban Outfitters as a fashionable accessory.
So after a decade-and-a-half of wearing glasses and getting a bunch of questions from people who watch the show and are interested in buying some frames, I thought I'd share what I know: Where I buy my glasses, which designers you should look into and what makes a great frame.
This week's newsletter is dedicated to all those glasses wearers who never thought there would be a time when wearing glasses would be considered cool. Well, its 2009 and they are all the rage. We did it!

My go-to glasses have always been Oliver Peoples. They've managed to perfect the "Buddy Holly" frame without going over the top. They're a bit of an investment but when it comes to quality, they're hard to top!
Sol Moscot has been the eyewear King of New York since 1915. I have a hard time leaving his stores without buying a new pair. They are also some of the most affordable and well made frames you can buy. I highly recommend checking them out.
Aside from being one of the coolest clothing labels around, Ksubi has been making sunglasses for a couple years. This season, however, the designers decided to go one step further and venture into world of optical glasses. I couldn't be more excited!
This Toronto-based eyewear store is where I've found some of my favourite pairs of glasses. Owners Mel and Julia offer a hand-picked selection of designer frames, their staff truly know what they're talking about, and they also produce some pretty great glasses in-house.
Spectacle is another amazing Toronto-based eyewear boutique that specializes in frames that are a little more daring. They also have a really amazing blog that, no pun intended, focuses on all things eyewear. Trust me, if you're shopping around for the perfect pair of frames, use it for inspiration.
SUNGLASSES AS GLASSES!
If you're into taking risks with your glasses, consider converting a sunglass frame into regular glasses. They are always a little more out there and you're almost guaranteed that no one else will have the same pair. A little while ago I took a pair of white Ray Ban sunglasses and turned them into optical glasses. They were met with mixed reviews. And by mixed reviews I mean people calling the show telling me they hated them and that I should put my old ones back on.
I stand by those glasses. Always have. Always will.
Hope this helps!!
