VMA FACT OF THE DAY

Bette Midler and Dan Aykroyd hosted the first MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City back in 1984.

MADONNA ADOPTING A SECOND CHILD? On the heels of a Malawian official coming to London to assess her suitability to officially adopt David Banda, U-K paper The Sun is reporting that Madonna has been given the green light and will adopt a second child from the African country. For this go around, it appears that Madge has chosen a sister, Mercy, for her most recently adopted son. The singer expects to file papers next February and the 13-month-old girl could be in London by April. The paper also says that Madonna has instructed her lawyer to "cover all legal bases" so as to avoid any of the snafus of her first adoption. A spokesperson for Madge declined to comment on the story.

AMY WINEHOUSE HEADS TO PARADISE. We reported yesterday about Amy Winehouse's in-laws asking her fans to not buy her albums so she'll get the message and quit drugs, but according to NME.com, she's not learning the lesson. The site reports that the singer and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, are now vacationing in St. Lucia. They have previously been in rehab on an island off the U-K coast. There's no word how long the couple plans to stay in the Caribbean or if they will return for treatment.

AMERICAN IDOL FINALIST BACK IN REHAB, TRIAL POSTPONED. Singer Jessica Sierra, who was one of ten finalists on American Idol back in 2005, has had her trial for battery and drug charges postponed. The Associated Press reports that a judge has rescheduled her trial from October to November 26th after Sierra's lawyer reported that the 21-year-old former finalist had entered a California rehabilitation facility in July and was likely to stay there for several months. Sierra allegedly hit a man in the head with a cocktail glass at a Tampa nightclub in April. While she was being booked and searched, police officers discovered she was carrying a "small amount of cocaine." Sierra has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated battery and cocaine possession. Sierra's attorney John Fitzgibbons would not specify exactly why she was in rehab, but according to a Tampa ABC newsaffiliate, he did say it was for "drug addiction" and the program was "very helpful to her." According to Sierra's Web site, last updated in late July, her single "Unbroken" is available for digital download and a new album will be released this fall.

HIGH SCHOOLERS TO TAKE ON METALLICA.  High School Tributes, the production of the Canadian high school La Frontaliere, has in the past released two Kiss tribute CDs.  Now, in their latest effort, the youngsters are taking on Metallica.  Their forthcoming tribute album is called Teach 'Em All -A High- School Tribute to Metallica and will feature tracks like "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Master of Puppets" and, of course, "Enter Sandman."  The record is due out in April of next year.

BRITNEY'S FORMER MANAGER TALKS TO THAT OTHER BLOG.  Britney Spears' former manager, Larry Rudolph, told That Other Blog on Tuesday why he is trying not to get involved in the singer's child-custody dispute with ex-husband Kevin Federline.  According to MTV News, he said, "I have consulted with my lawyers and I do understand that eventually the time will come when they will find me, but until then, I'm trying to avoid being brought into this mess.  She's going through so much right now, and I wish Britney the best."

SINGER TONI BRAXTON DENIES BREAST CANCER RUMORS. Six-time GRAMMY-winner Toni Braxton made an official statement to Access Hollywood on Tuesday, denying Internet and published reports that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Braxton did confirm that she went to a doctor for a screening, "after feeling something uncomfortable in my left breast." But she says that nothing was found and she is in "great health." The 39-year-old Braxton is currently appearing five nights a week in her own Las Vegas show called Toni Braxton: Revealed at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.

NIKKI SIXX TO SPEAK IN WASHINGTON, D.C.  If anyone knows about drug recovery, it's Nikki Sixx.  With his debut book, The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star hitting shelves on September 18th, the Motley Crue bassist truly understands what addiction can do.  That's why Sixx plans to speak at the 18th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Luncheon on Capital Hill September 6th.  The engagement will make Nikki the first member of the rock world to share his story of addiction at such an event.  With the talk in Washington, his book and an accompanying soundtrack, Sixx hopes to steer people clear of substance abuse.  25 percent of the books profits will be donated to Running Wild in the Night, Sixx's fundraising initiative for Covenant House California, which helps keep runaway, abused and abandoned youth off the streets.

AUTHORITIES HAVE RESULTS FROM DMX RAID. The Associated Press reports that the mysterious substance found during the raid of Earl 'DMX' Simmons Cave Creek, Arizona home is not an illegal narcotic. Local sheriff Joe Arpaio stated, "We're still looking at what type of powder that is." Arpaio went on to say, "But we did seize a useable quantity of marijuana. He does have a drug situation there." Arpaio has stated that neighbors claim to have seen Simmons at the residence over the past few weeks. The fighting duo appeared together in The One, but they didn't get to throw down onscreen until this latest movie. Devon was impressed with Jason's fighting prowess. Brady is now dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen, and has led the Patriots to three NFL titles and is a two-time Super Bowl MVP.  Ironically, New Englandopens its regular season against the rival New York Jets on September 9th.

NUGENT ASKED TO TONE DOWN HIS ACT.  After he went off on a tirade on some Democratic Presidential contenders, Ted Nugent has been asked to tone it down when he performs at the South Dakota State Fair on Sunday.  Susan Hayward, the fair manager, told a Sioux Falls television station that she spoke to the rocker's representatives and reminded them that the event was family-oriented.  Hayward described their answer, saying, "They were very courteous in responding immediately in assuring us that that's exactly what we would have."  At a recent concert, the outspoken Nugent called Barack Obama a piece of s*** and told him to "suck on my machine gun."  He also suggested Hillary Clinton ride one of his guns into the sunset.  Nugent plays Kinder, Louisiana tomorrow.
