Peter Jackson is no stranger to adapting well beloved books into well received blockbuster movies, so we knew that when it was announced he would be adapting 'The Lovely Bones' to the big screen, that the adaptation was in good hands - but how do the actors involved feel about portraying pre-established characters from a book that is cherished by a devoted group of fans?
'You have to separate them, it's a completely different media' says star Rose Mciver 'You can't make a film to try to please fans of the book. Peter says if you gave the book to 20 different filmmakers, you'd end up with 20 completely different films. It's a vast story and he's chosen the impression that was made on him. Hopefully people will be open minded enough that when they see the film they will see that it is the same story, the same characters but viewed through a different lens'.
Saoirse Ronan admitted that promoting the film has really shown her how passionate fans are about the book and the way they see the characters. 'People always have very strong opinions, even about what a character should look like' the Oscar nominated star noted 'If the actor doesn't look like that way then the film is awful.' Ronan also took the opportunity to put herself in the shoes of another group of young actors who have faced the pressures of portraying characters from a popular series of books onto the big screen. 'Whenever I see the people from Twilight, which is a book that is huge with teenagers who have a very strong opinion about things, I can really feel for them because I can really feel the pressure'.
