Drew Barrymore may have made the shortlist of directors up for the chance to helm "Eclipse," the third installment of the "Twlight" franchise, but that distinction ultimately went to Juan Antonio Bayona. At the "Grey Gardens" premiere, the actress told MTV News just how badly she wanted to work with the likes of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

"Oh, I wish that I was! I adore that project and I adore the team that's making it," she said. "And I am very honored to now be a director and going up for other movies and being offered other movies as a director. I'm now an actor/producer/director! How lucky am I!"

Back in February, word began to spread that Barrymore was one of the directors being considered to helm the project. Her directorial debut, "Whip It!," a comedy about a female roller-derby team, is currently waiting for a release date.

"Eclipse" has a June 10, 2010, release date, and filming will presumably begin soon after the completion of "New Moon," which is already under way in Vancouver.

In earlier interviews, before she was passed up to direct "Eclipse," the actress seemed eager to join the project. "I'm one of the directors that is being talked about, which is great, because I'm a director now," Barrymore said. "But, you know, they'll make their choice."
